Spectrolab launches LED searchlights
Boeing’s Spectrolab has introduced new high-intensity LED searchlights for use on military rotorcraft, Spectrolab announced on 5 March.
Both the Nightsun XPM and SLL 46-200 LED searchlights meet current military specification (MIL-SPEC) guidelines for both the visible and infrared light spectrums. The Nightsun XPM has been tested aboard a Boeing Chinook helicopter.
Both searchlight products use additive manufacturing for reduced part count and improved maintainability. They will also be available to the commercial market.
Tony Mueller, president of Spectrolab, said: ‘These are powerful examples of Spectrolab innovation in airborne lighting that often exceeds rigorous requirements in MIL-SPEC applications. As new searchlight technology, they expand on our 50-year history of providing advanced lighting for rotorcraft platforms.’
