Sino-Russian AHL grows in stature

China and Russia are edging closer to a contract for the cooperative Advanced Heavy Lift (AHL) helicopter, with the proposed design more prominently presented at the fourth China Helicopter Exposition in Tianjin.

A scale model was displayed on the Aviation Corporation of China (AVIC) stand and there were accompanying video graphics showing the platform being used for disaster relief, firefighting and electricity pylon erection missions.

Notably, there are advances in the AHL’s specifications compared to those announced two years ago. The MTOW has risen 500kg to 38.7t, and the service ceiling has increased from 18,700ft to 19,700ft. The fuselage is
