Sikorsky wins VXX presidential helicopter contract

US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded Sikorsky an initial contract to build six new Marine One presidential helicopters, valued at $1.2 billion. 

The Presidential Helicopter Replacement Programme (VXX) is the second attempt by NAVAIR to replace 19 ageing Marine One helicopters, after an earlier contract was cancelled in 2009 due to cost overruns. 

The new contract, awarded on 7 May, will see Sikorsky modify, test and deliver the first six of a planned 23-strong fleet of Marine One aircraft, using in-production S-92A helicopters integrated with government-defined mission systems, and finished with executive interiors.
