New Black Hawk mooring pads underway
Work has begun on the construction of new helicopter mooring pads for the US Army's 1st Air Calvary Brigade in Powidz, Poland, as part of the European Deterrence Initiative build-up.
The project includes the building of five 30ft x 50ft helicopter parking pads, each containing six mooring points, and the placement of five concrete approach aprons to assist in the taxiing and securement of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
The pads are being built to improve the aircraft security and staging posture crews for the members of the army's medical evacuation teams.
Sergeant First Class Mike Longhenry, medical evacuation team, Charlie Company 2-227, Second Battalion, 1st Air Calvary Brigad, said: 'These pads will tie into the medical evacuation plan for the region to where we have a staging area for the medical evacuation helicopters, and to improve our response times.'
