Sea Lion progresses towards first delivery
The German Navy’s NH90 Sea Lion helicopter programme has completed two key milestones as it moves toward first delivery at the end of 2019.
Firstly, in October the first serial German Navy Sea Lion helicopter completed first power-on of all electrical systems at the final assembly line at Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth.
This was followed by the completion of all ground and flight tests required for the helicopter's qualification in November. The formal closure of the qualification is expected in the first quarter of 2019, followed by the military type certification by the German authorities in the second quarter of 2019.
The qualification aircraft, the second Sea Lion prototype, is now entering the lay-up phase for upgrading the helicopter to serial configuration. The German Navy has ordered a total of 18 helicopters.
