SAR exercise in Corsica
French Air Force helicopter squadrons have been taking part in a Search and Rescue exercise in Corsica.
The exercise - based at the French base at Solanzara allowed units to share their experiences in the SAR mission and took place between April 5 and April 9.
Squadrons taking part included 1/67 ‘Pyrenees’ from Cazaux, 3/67 ‘Parisis’ based at Villacoublay, 5/67 ‘Alpilles’ from Istres and 1/44 ‘Solenzara’ based Corsica flying a mix of types including Puma, Super Puma and Fennec.
The objectives of the week were structured around three axes: to allow units to train together in all conditions they may encounter (SAR land, sea or mountain), share their respective feedback in their area of excellence and contribute to periodic training of crews in the field of survival.
The course ended with the 'Cup Jolliet,' a friendly timed competition test the squadron's ability in various SAR missions. The 'Pyrenees' ranked first, followed by the 'Solenzara', the 'Alpilles' and then ‘Parisis’.
