SAR 2010: EC225 paves the way for SAR NH90s in France

The French Navy's new fleet of EC225 SAR helicopters is paving the way for the introduction of the NH90 in the SAR role.

In a presentation at the SAR 2010 conference in Aberdeen on 15 September, Commander Guillaume Guitard of the French Fleet Air Arm's test unit at Hyeres in Southern France, said crew transition from the EC225 to the NH90 was 'less steep than it would have been if they had to transition from the Super Frelon'.

The French Navy purchased two EC225s in December 2009 for the long-range SAR role and to replace the elderly and increasingly unreliable
