SAR 2010: BA609 mooted for SAR role

The development team behind the much-delayed Bell-Agusta BA609 tiltrotor says it could hail in a new revolution of SAR capability.

Speaking at the SAR 2010 conference in Aberdeen on 15 September, Cesare Arcari, BA609 Programme VP told delegates that the BA609 would offer operators new SAR capabilities – complementing the SAR helicopter but not replacing it.

'Our idea is that we will not replace the helicopter – we believe that this machine can help to save more lives than we are already doing,' Arcari said.

Arcari pointed to the type's ability to cruise at up to 275 knots at 25,000
