SAIC awarded $49m contract to support US Navy's Military Sealift Command
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) today announced it has been awarded a prime contract by the US Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC), Washington, D.C., to provide data center, information technology (IT), and disaster recovery site support. The follow-on contract has a one year base period of performance, four one-year options, and a total value of more than $49 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily at MSC headquarters at the Washington Navy Yard, and in Norfolk, Va., Pensacola, Fla., and San Diego, Calif.
The MSC works with the maritime industry and US federal agencies to find innovative maritime solutions to ocean transportation challenges. It operates approximately 110 noncombatant, civilian-crewed ships that replenish US Navy ships, conduct specialized missions, strategically position cargo at sea, and move military cargo and supplies used by deployed US forces and coalition partners. Under the contract, SAIC will help enable ashore and afloat communications, including IT services, for MSC ships as they deliver supplies and conduct specialized missions throughout the world.
"We look forward to continuing our support of MSC by maintaining the operational availability of their IT and communications systems as they continue to deliver innovative and cost-effective maritime solutions," said Tom Baybrook, senior vice president and business unit general manager.
