Safran engines for Qatar’s new NH90s
Safran Helicopter Engines has been selected as the engine supplier for Qatar’s NH90 fleet, the company announced on 28 March.
The 28 NH90 military helicopters on order for the Qatar armed forces will be equipped with Safran’s RTM322-01/9A version engines.
The RTM322-01/9A has a seven percent power increase over the baseline RTM322-01/9 variant. This additional power increases mission capabilities in hot and high conditions. Designed for ten-to-fifteen tonne military helicopters, the engine has a power range between 2,100 and 2,600shp.
Florent Chauvancy, VP of heavy helicopter engine programmes at Safran Helicopter Engines, said: ‘The RTM322 has once again demonstrated that it is the best engine for the NH90. Since our acquisition of the programme in 2013, we have generated a high level of operator satisfaction through increasing engine robustness and operability, and by implementing simpler and more efficient maintenance practices.'
As part of this agreement, 16 H125 light single-engine helicopters on order for Qatar's Armed Forces Air Academy will also powered by the Safran Arriel 2D engine.
