Russia's helicopter war in Syria

Despite Russia’s announcement that it would begin removing its forces from Syria, helicopter units are still active in the war-torn country.

The latest chapter in the protracted internal conflict involved Russia’s military machine conducting an intense air campaign in an attempt to defeat those fighting against Syrian government forces.

While the campaign was launched in September 2015, the first gains were not evident until December.
