Russian-made helicopters at Heli & UV Pacific 2010 in Australia
On 26-27 May Kazan Helicopters, JSC will take part in Helicopter Industry Exhibition Heli & UV Pacific 2010.
Kazan Helicopters has been exhibiting there since 2001, and will traditionally attend this time too. This year, however, Kazan Helicopters takes part in the exhibition as a representative of the consolidated helicopter industry of Russia under the management of the newly-created holding company Russian Helicopters, JSC.
Russian Helicopters is an affiliated company of UIC Oboronprom, which is part of the Russian Technologies State Corporation. Russian Helicopters is the managing body of all Russian helicopter industry enterprises. Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, Kamov, and Kazan Helicopters conduct R&D. Serial production plants were also integrated into the Russian Helicopters company: Kazan Helicopters manufactures the medium Mi-8/17 and the light Ansat, and is starting production of the Mi-38. Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant manufactures the Mi-8/171.
Rostvertol manufactures the heavy lift helicopter Mi-26T, the transport-combat helicopter Mi-24/35, and the attack helicopter Mi-28N. Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise produces the Ka-27/Ka-32 and the light Ka-226T. Arsenyev Aviation Company Progress manufactures the military attack helicopter Ka-50/52 and the light Mi-34C1.
Russian Helicopters is also engaged in the management of production and aftersale support enterprises for major components and systems: Vpered Moscow Machine-Building Plant, Stupino Machine Production Plant, Reductor-PM, Novosibirsk Aircraft Repairing Plant, Ural Works of Civil Aviation, Helicopter Service Company (VSK) and service centres.
Consolidation of the Russian helicopter industry was completed in 2009. Russian Helicopters managing company is aggressively developing its research and production capacity. It is finishing its own R&D centre in Moscow’s suburban Tomilino. Its new engineering centre, test production line, and research centre are nearing completion.
The consolidated Russian helicopter industry uses the Helicopter Industry Exhibition Heli & UV Pacific 2010 to broaden its market share in Australia and South-East Asia. Mi-17 helicopters are currently operated in this region by the Indonesian Air Force; they also perform logging operations in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
New modified versions of Mi-17 helicopters with improved aircraft performance and VK-2500 engines, with a new APU and glass cockpit will be demonstrated at the exposition. The light Ansat helicopter and multi-purpose Mi-38 will also be introduced to the public.

The Mi-17, the Ansat and derivatives are currently offered to the Australian and Asian markets. State-of-the-art technologies that are successfully incorporated in new Russian-made helicopter types: Mi-17, Mi-38, Ansat, and the Russian Helicopters global service network are matters of the utmost importance.
Mi-17. Deliveries of the Mi-17V-5 with new VK-2500 engines began in 2003. These engines guarantee an operating ceiling of 8000 m and engine operation at 6000 m above sea level. In 2004 Kazan Helicopters delivered the 3000th Mi-17 helicopter. In the nearest future Kazan Helicopters will start the productionthe Mi-17V-5 base version with new engines, avionics, and an additional power plant system.
Mi-38. After the official presentation in October 2004, the Mi-38 helicopter proceeded to required tests (at Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, also part of the Russian Helicopters),
The third Prototype of the Mi-38 helicopter is under production and will be handed over to Moscow Helicopter Plant for further tests.
Ansat. In addition to type certificate ST-236-Ansat issued 29 December 2004 for the multi-purpose Ansat (basic version with one pilot) Kazan Helicopters has received Supplements for the following versions of the helicopter on 24 February 2005:
- with two pilot air crew (Supplement № 1);
- with emergency floatation system (Supplement № 2);
Equipped with two PW-207K engines, the Ansat is intended for transport operations.
The helicopter is certificated according to A transport category and VFR.
The work on certification of other modifications continuing. Kazan Helicopters plans to obtain Supplements to the type Certificate:
- with Simplex Fire Fighting System;
- passenger transportation;
- IFR operations;
- cargo transportation on external sling;
- hoist;
- wheel landing gear.
There are plans to increase takeoff weight to 3600 kg.
