President-S for Russian Helicopters
Russian Helicopters will fit a number of its helicopter types with its new President-S on-board defence system, it was announced on 6 April.
Types to be fitted with the system include the Ka-52 and Mi-28NE strike helicopters, Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopter, and the Mi-17-V5 and Mi-171Sh multi-functional helicopters.
The defence system is designed to protect helicopters from air-to-air missiles and MANPADs. It includes a control system, decoy flares, electro-optical electronic warfare system, ultraviolet missile approach warning system, and laser illumination detector.
A number of aircraft being delivered to export customers are set to be fitted with the system during 2016.
President-S will be installed in new helicopters under contract and will also be a component in the upgrade programmes for helicopters operated by foreign customers as a collaborative effort with Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies.
Alexander Mikheev, director general, Russian Helicopters, said: ‘Helicopters made in Russia have always shown great results in real combat situations. Russian Helicopters is working to improve its aircraft by continuously upgrading and equipping them with next-generation onboard systems. The new President-S will protect helicopters against hostile MANPADs and ensure high flight safety.’
