Russian Helicopters has delivered five military transport Mi-171Sh helicopters to the Bangladesh Ministry of Defence, the company announced on 11 December.

The helicopters will be used for cargo transportation and border security provision along with UN humanitarian missions.

The Mi-171Sh helicopters are equipped with additional fuel tanks for extended range, and an external sling. They are fitted with spotlights and winches that have the capacity to lift 150kg, and can carry medevac equipment to evacuate up to 12 injured people. The helicopters are also equipped with armour and protection systems.

The helicopters were delivered to Bangladesh under a contract signed by Rosoboronexport in late 2013.

Alexander Mikheev, CEO, Russian Helicopters, said: 'The geographies to which we deliver modified Mi-171 helicopters expand every year. Today they are in use in Brazil, China, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Peru and beyond. There are real opportunities to continue to deliver the Mi-171Sh to Bangladesh. We produce high-tech multirole helicopters, which are designed to complete highly complex missions anywhere in the world.'
