Russia reforms its army aviation branch

The Russian Air Force (RuAF) is poised for a deep reform and recapitalisation of its Army Aviation branch, which operates transport and attack helicopters in support of land forces.

After a cut in units during a previous round of reforms in 2009, the structure of the Army Aviation is going to be expanded once again in order to provide reliable support to the Russian Army, according to the RuAF’s commander Lt Gen Victor Bondaryov.

Bondaryov told Russian press on 28 July that following the reform effort, the Army Aviation will comprise ten front-line regiments and four brigades, replacing today’s air
