Russia finalises Algerian helicopter deal

Russia has started deliveries of Mi-26T2 and Mi-28NE helicopters to Algeria as part of a US$2.7 billion package that was recently finalised.

Sources at Rosoboronexport, the state supplier of Russian weapons abroad, have confirmed that two of six Mi-26T2s heavy transport have been formally handed over to Algeria, which is also buying Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopters. 

The deal, which also involves the modernisation of 39 previously-supplied Mi-171SH helicopters, was first agreed to in 2013 but has only moved forward following the recent signing of a final agreement.

The two countries have seen active military-technical cooperation in the past decade,
