Royal Navy says SAR-onara

The Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm has officially ended its role in UK search and rescue (SAR) operations, concluding nearly 60 years of service.

The distinctive red and grey Sea King Mk5 aircraft from 771 Naval Air Squadron in Cornwall and HMS Gannett in Scotland were stood down on 1 January. 

The previous week, an aircraft from HMS Gannett rescued ten people trapped on a bus during the severe flooding that hit parts of the UK.
