Engine manufacturer receives order for 33 additional AE1107C engines for the V-22 and MV-22 Osprey.

The US business of Rolls-Royce has received a $72.87 million contract modification from US Naval Systems Command to produce V-22 and MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft engines.

The modification exercises an option to procure 33 production AE1107C-Liberty engines; 14 for the USMC and 19 for the USN.

Work will be performed in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is expected to be completed in December 2022.

According to Shephard Defence Insight, the USN and USAF have ordered about 1,000 AE1107C engines to date.

The twin-shaft axial design of the AE1107C consists of a 14-stage compressor followed by an effusion-cooled annular combustor, a two-stage gas generator turbine and a two-stage power turbine.

The engine features six rows of variable compressor vanes, dual-FADEC, a self-contained oil system that allows for vertical operation, modular construction and an ‘on-condition’ maintenance capability.
