Rockwell Collins has been awarded a contract for avionics service and support from Boeing for the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF) CH-147F Chinook fleet, the company announced on 28 May.

The contract is effective immediately and will run through to March 2018. Under this contract, Rockwell Collins will provide local engineering services and support equipment for the fleet's avionics on behalf of Boeing.

The fleet of 15 Chinooks, which were delivered in 2013 and 2014, features the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) cockpit from Rockwell Collins. The RCAF 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron at Canadian Forces Garrison Petawawa operates the fleet.

The CAAS displays feature embedded cognitive decision aids, mission computing resources and mission systems software, with a highly fault tolerant design.

Lee Obst, vice president and managing director, Rockwell Collins Canada, said: 'This contract continues our decades-long relationship with Boeing and furthers our commitment to bringing in-country service and support to the Canadian military. Our world-class service and support personnel will ensure that the CH-147 remains sustainable and operational for the RCAF for years to come.'
