Rheinmetall to maintain two CH-53G docks in Germany
Rheinmetall Aviation Services is to operate two CH-53G maintenance and repair bays belonging to the German Air Force’s 64th Helicopter Squadron at Diepholz Air Base starting in March 2021, under a new contract announced on 9 December.
The value of the five-year deal (plus a 12-month optional extension) is ‘in the lower two-digit million-euro range’, the company noted in a statement.
Rheinmetall Aviation Services claims that this order positions the company for work on the German Air Force STH procurement programme if it resumes. The long-running tender to replace the CH-53G heavy-lift helicopter was cancelled by the German government in late September 2020.
Bremen-based Rheinmetall Aviation Services was formed in early 2019 as part of a strategic cooperation programme between Boeing and Sikorsky for STH.
