Quad A: Echo model Apache deploys to Afghanistan

The AH-64E Apache attack helicopter has made its operational debut in Afghanistan with the 1-229th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, the army has confirmed.

The battalion was the first unit to operate the Echo model Apache, dubbed the Guardian, in Afghanistan when it deployed with 24 aircraft in March, according to Col Jeff Hager, project manager for the Apache.

Speaking to reporters at the Quad A exhibition in Nashville, Hager said the programme office was closely monitoring the activities in theatre of the unit, which is based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

‘The Echo model is doing very good out there.
