Quad A 2016: FVL needed for Pacific theatre

The US Army’s initiative to introduce a new generation of helicopters as part of Future Vertical Lift (FVL) will be vital for addressing growing threats in the Asia-Pacific region, the deputy commander of US Pacific Command (PACOM) has said. 

‘We must increase the capability of our [rotary wing] platforms’ said Lt Gen Anthony Crutchfield, PACOM deputy commander. ‘I firmly believe the only way we will close the gap on some of problems facing us in the Pacific is Future Vertical Lift.’

Essential attributes, said Crutchfield, for future rotorcraft in the Asia Pacific theatre will be speed, range and survivability. ‘
