Romeo finally finds Seoul mate

After much deliberation and delay, the Republic of Korea Navy has finally settled on its follow-on naval helicopter platform.

After a lengthy tender and decision-making process, South Korea finally selected the Sikorsky MH-60R naval helicopter on 15 December as the platform to operate from its upcoming warships.

The Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) was seeking additional naval helicopters under its Maritime Operations Helicopter Batch 2 (MOH2) project. It represented a follow on from MOH phase one, whereby eight Leonardo AW159 Wildcats were procured.

The 12 MH-60R helicopters will be procured through the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) system, and a contract is expected to be signed promptly before the end of 2020. The programme all-up will be worth about
