Leonardo confident of securing new Wildcat orders

Leonardo hopes to build on a modest AW159 Wildcat export order record as it pursues 'multiple opportunities' across Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.

Leonardo wants to put the setback of missing out on a lucrative AW159 Wildcat multirole helicopter contract from South Korea behind it by agreeing additional export orders.

In an estimated $864 million deal, the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) selected the Sikorsky MH-60R ahead of the Wildcat when deciding on a Maritime Operations Batch 2 (MOH2) contract in Q4 2020 – a surprising turn of events after Leonardo had originally been declared the MOH2 preferred bidder.

‘We still believe the AW159 Wildcat was the right solution for the Republic of Korea’s requirements,’ a company spokesperson confirmed in a statement.
