Power up: PLA fields upgraded Z-10 attack helicopters

A picture that appeared on the Chinese Internet on 8 February has revealed that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has introduced an upgraded variant of its Z-10 attack helicopter, which is used by the country's ground and air forces.

The image depicted aircraft of the 80th Aviation Brigade of the army’s 80th Group Army. Based in Liaocheng, Shandong, this unit belongs to the PLA’s Northern Theatre Command.

The notable distinguishing feature of the updated Z-10 is exhaust ducts that point upward, instead of to the sides as before. The reason for doing this is to reduce the IR heat signature
