Philippines buys new Bell 412s

The Philippines has signed a signed a contract worth more than $100 million with the Canadian Commercial Corporation for eight Bell 412 utility helicopters.

Fernando Manalo, Philippine undersecretary of defence for finance, munitions, installations and materiel, announced the acquisition of the helicopters along with the $420 million purchase of 12 Korea Aerospace Industries FA-50 light fighters.  The Bell 412s will be built at Bell Helicopter’s Mirabel, Quebec facility.

‘This is significant because we need to give our armed forces the minimum capability to perform its mission and responsibility,’ Manalo told reporters in Manila after announcing the purchases. The December 2012
