The Defense Ministry of Peru has received three additional Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters from Russian Helicopters, Rostec announced on 30 July.

This batch continues the delivery of 24 helicopters ordered by the Peruvian military under a contract with the Russian state exporter Rosoboronexport signed in 2013. Peru received the first eight helicopters in December 2014.

The Mi-171Sh helicopters for Peru feature additional fuel tanks and more powerful engines to enable long flights in the highlands. The helicopters have winches that can tow up to 300kg and hospital equipment that can evacuate up to 12 people in a prone position. It has an electric ramp and two sliding doors to allow up to 26 personnel to parachute from the helicopter within eight seconds.

Peruvian specialists have undertaken training on managing and operating the helicopters at the aviation training centre of Ulan-Ude Aviation Plan. They were trained on piloting techniques and rules and the systems incorporated in the helicopters, while technicians underwent training on servicing the helicopter.
