Pentagon confirms Kiowa retirement

The US Army is moving forward with plans to scrap its entire fleet of OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopters as part of a major aviation restructuring.

The US Air Force (USAF) also plans to award a contract for the Combat Rescue Helicopter (CRH) programme this year, despite the programme not being included in the Pentagon’s initial budget.

Following the Pentagon’s 2015 budget announcement, the army confirmed plans to retire its Bell OH-58 Kiowa Warrior scout and TH-67 training helicopters, and will use the National Guard’s Boeing AH-64 Apaches to ‘temporarily’ fulfil the scout helicopter role.
