Paraguay asks South Korea for a pair of Hueys
The South Korean government has received a request from its Paraguayan counterpart to donate two surplus UH-1H Huey helicopters to the Paraguayan Air Force.
This request was made ‘within the framework of cooperation in defence matters’ during a meeting in Asunción between Paraguayan Minister of National Defence Bernardino Soto Estigarribia and the South Korean Ambassador In Shik Woo, the Paraguayan MoD noted on 4 December.
South Korea had acquired a total of 129 Hueys (pictured) by 1998, and the fleet achieved a cumulative total of 792,000 flight hours over 146 million kilometres by the time of its retirement on 31 July this year.
The Philippine Air Force plans to obtain around 21 UH-1Hs second-hand from the South Korea. The fate of the remaining Hueys is unclear.
