Pakistani military helicopters key element of US strategy

A new Pentagon analysis of stability operations in Afghanistan and its neighbours says enhancement of the Pakistani military helicopter fleet remains a priority for United States assistance efforts with counter insurgency capability critical to the fight against Taliban and allied insurgent groups.

The Pentagon’s latest “Report on Progress toward Security and Stability in Afghanistan”, issued 8 July, says the US is “focused on enhancing the operational readiness of several of Pakistan’s helicopter platforms to further support the respective missions of the Frontier Corps, special operations units, and the regular army.”

The report says Karachi’s “capacity to conduct successful counter insurgency
