The US Navy has awarded a specialised test equipment (STE) and training support contract to Northrop Grumman for its MH-60 Seahawk helicopter programme.

The navigation systems division of the company, which offers customised support solutions to systems, will provide the STE and training to government technicians, Northrop Grumman announced on 24 January.

The contract will be subcontracted to Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor for the navy’s MH-60 common avionics suite.

The technicians will be able to employ the STE to perform depot-level repairs to MH-60 cockpit avionics equipment once they are trained.

‘Having the necessary test equipment on site will give the navy greater flexibility in performing repairs and help minimise lifecycle support costs,’ said Gorik Hossepian, vice president of navigation and positioning systems, for Northrop Grumman’s navigation systems division.

The work will be performed at the navy’s fleet readiness centre in San Diego.
