Netherlands restricts NH90 flying hours

Dutch NH90 aircrews are now restricted to flying a maximum of one hour a day due to cockpit noise level concerns, it has emerged.

The aircrews have been complaining about noise level issues with the NH90 for some time, arguing this could lead to permanent hearing damage. In at least one case, a crewmember has been diagnosed with signs of hearing loss.

This has led to the decision by the commander of the Dutch Defence Helicopter Command, air commodore Jan Willem Westerbeek, to limit the amount of NH90 flying activity, according to a recent MoD statement.
