The Nepalese Army takes delivery of new Dhruv ALH
The Nepali Army took delivery of a Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) built by Hindustan Aeronautics on 25 November, marking the latest success for India’s strengthening defence export market.
The Dhruv helicopter will join two aircraft delivered to the Nepali Army in November 2013. Hindustan Aeronautics will provide maintenance and logistics support for the fleet from Kathmandu.
The Dhruv Mk III, powered by Shakti engines and fitted with advanced glass cockpit and avionics, is a multi-role, multi-mission new generation helicopter in 5.5t weight class. With demonstrated capability in long distance flights, vertical climb and manoeuvring, the aircraft is a good match for the extreme mountainous terrain and adverse environmental conditions in Nepal.
The Dhruv has also been exported to Ecuador, Mauritius and Maldives, and is operated by the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
