MSPO 2019: Step in the right direction for Czech helo plans

The Czech Republic is poised to select a new armed helicopter to replace the current Mi-24/35 Hind fleet, before the end of the year. At the same time, the country’s military continues to invest in developing the capabilities of its Mi-171Sh tactical transport helicopters.

Last month, Stephen B. King, the US Ambassador in the Czech Republic, handed over an offer for 12 Sikorsky UH-60M tactical transport helicopters and another offer for eight Bell UH-1Ys and four AH-1Zs to Lubomir Metnar, the Czech defence minister.

The MoD disclosed that the value of the UH-60M offer is $589.9 million, while that for the UH-1Y/AH-1Z combination
