Montenegro accepts first Bell 505
The Montenegro Air Force accepted its first Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopter, with another to follow under a €3.3 million ($3.69 million) order with Bell Textron.
Technical acceptance of the helicopter took place in July in the Czech Republic. Delivery of the second Bell 505 for Montenegro is expected in Q1 2021.
These helicopters will be used to train new air force and military pilots. Shephard Defence Insight notes they will replace legacy Gazelle platforms.
As a trainer helicopter, the Jet Ranger X does not require any specific adaptations for military operators. It is equipped with the Garmin G1000H avionics suite and integrated with dual-channel full-authority digital engine control.
The Bell 505s were manufactured by Bell Textron Canada at its facility in Mirabel, Quebec. The sale was facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) through a government-to-government contract.
The 505 order was placed by Montenegro after it bought three Bell 412 utility helicopters (a single 412EP and two 412EPIs) in January 2018 for SAR and medevac missions.
