MBDA has received a £400 million contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the Brimstone air-to-surface missile Capability Sustainment Programme (CSP), the company announced on 27 March.

The programme will extend the service life of the Brimstone missile beyond 2030.

The contract will see MBDA manufacture new Brimstone missiles that will incorporate improved functionalities offered by serial upgrade work carried out over recent years. The new capabilities will include the highly capable dual mode SAL/millimetric wave seeker, enhanced autopilot and the new insensitive munition compliant rocket motor and warhead.

The CSP effort will also include a memory and processing update to the missile in order to enable all Brimstone functionalities and to future-proof the missile.

Brimstone CSP will deliver the baseline hardware standard that will be evolved through software enhancements which will result in a common stockpile of identical missiles for use on fast jets, attack helicopter and UAS by the UK MoD.

The CSP modes will be cockpit selectable providing users with simple access to the unique performance capabilities of Brimstone against the most challenging of targets.
