MAKS 2011: Russia begins overhaul of military helicopter fleet

Russian Helicopters has received orders for more than 450 helicopters from the Russian defence ministry as part of a multi-billion dollar effort to modernise its armed forces.

At a press conference at the MAKS air show outside Moscow on 16 August, Russian Helicopters chief executive Dmitry Petrov confirmed that the company had signed seven long-term contracts for a range of types, including Ka-52 Alligator and Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopters and Mi-8/Mi-17 transports.

A spokesman for the holding company confirmed the details to Shephard, adding that negotiations were currently ongoing for a further three shorter-term contracts under the government plan
