Luminator to furnish the LS16 Searchlight on the US Army's UH-72A Lakota for Security and Support Missions
Luminator has been selected to provide its LS16 Searchlight on the US Army’s UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter for Security and Support missions.
From Luminator’s initial design stage our objective for the LS16 searchlight is to improve flight safety, integrate the latest technology, improve reliability, simplify assembly, and lower maintenance cost. The search light uses solid-state electronics, and a highly precise optical system to deliver more than 30,000,000 candlepower to the target.
The smooth, bi-directional focusing system delivers a 4 to 20 degree beam spread. A robust drive system provides variable-speed azimuth and elevation motion at speeds up to 30 degrees per second.
“This impressive program award allows Luminator in Plano, Texas, to provide the best in searchlight technology advancements and assist in the readiness and performance of the Army’s mission.” said Dan Kelleher, Vice President of Sales and Marketing – North America. In addition to the LS16 Searchlight product, Luminator will provide operator, maintenance training, and systems engineering support to ensure proper use and maintenance of the searchlight throughout the product’s lifecycle.
Luminator was selected by EADS North America, which is the Lakota prime contractor to the US Army and American Eurocopter – which has production responsibility for the UH-72A. In its Security and Support configuration, the UH-72A will provide Army National Guard units the flexibility to respond to a variety of homeland security, homeland defense and civil law enforcement support missions.
The mission equipment package consists of an electro-optical infrared sensor, data communications suite, moving map display, cabin and cockpit screens, a digital video recorder and the LS16 searchlight.
