Luftwaffe SF to join army and navy

German H145M Light Utility Helicopter Special Operations Forces (LUH SOF) crews will become part of the Bundeswehr's special forces as of 1 April 2017 as the full capability comes online.

The move was ordered by the chief of the German defence staff, Gen Volker Wieker, on 11 November.

The crews and their helicopters support German special forces. Their mission is to insert special forces by parachute or fast roping, facilitated by the low optical and acoustic signature of the H145M's dark grey colour scheme and Fenestron protected tail rotor, which makes it one of the quietest helicopters in its class.
