Lord’s ACVS selected for KUH MEDEVAC variant
Lord Corporation will supply its Active Vibration Control System (AVCS) for the KUH MEDEVAC variant of the KUH-1 Surion helicopter. The company announced a contract with Korea Aerospace Industries on 10 March for the work, following its selection in late 2014.
The contract will see Lord qualify its AVCS system design and manufacture it for the MEDECAV variant aircraft.
Lord’s AVCS operates through the use of accelerometers that measure aircraft vibration levels. Signals are sent to a centralised computer that runs a software algorithm to interpret the data and sends commands to force generators located throughout the aircraft. These force generators create ‘anti-vibration’ that stops the progression of vibration due to the main rotor.
Bill Cerami, president, Lord Aerospace and Defense, said: ’Our equipment recently completed critical design review and we are in the process of delivering the first ship-set of prototype hardware by mid-year.’
The system is expected to be fielded on the KUH MEDEVAC in 2018.
