Longbow radar for Indian Apaches
Longbow will provide Longbow Fire Control Radar (FCR) systems for the Indian Air Force’s Apache AH-64E helicopters, it was announced on 30 April. The radars will be supplied under a $57.1 million foreign military sale contract with the US Army.
The Longbow FCR gives Apache aircrews the ability to automatically detect, locate, classify and prioritise targets. It enables rapid, multi-target engagement in all weather, over multiple terrains and through battlefield obscurants.
Longbow, a Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman joint venture, will produce 12 radars and spares under this contract. Production will extend through early 2019.
Jim Messina, president, Longbow, and director of Longbow programs, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said: ‘With Longbow FCR, the Indian Air Force will receive a rapid all-weather targeting capability. The FCR’s air over-watch mode provides aircrews with 360-degree situational awareness, improving survivability and mission success.’
