Lockheed Martin doubles down on CIRCM

Lockheed Martin is taking a two-pronged approach as it vies for a slice of a potentially lucrative US Army contract for a next-generation helicopter directed infrared countermeasures system.

On 15 November the company announced that its Missiles and Fire Control division had teamed with DRS Technologies and Daylight Solutions to pursue the Common Infrared Countermeasure (CIRCM) requirement.

The CIRCM programme is seeking a ‘laser defeat’ capability to defend helicopters against man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) and other heat-seeking munitions and will be integrated with a range of platforms, including AH-64, UH-60 and CH-47 helicopters.
