Lockheed Martin has demonstrated its Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) engaging two stationary targets at the US Air Force's Eglin base in Florida, the company announced on 13 July.

The multi-mode JAGM engaged two laser-designated targets during the government-led tests. In the two test flights, the JAGM few 4km and engaged its semi-active, precision-strike laser to acquire the target, and then proceeded to strike the target.

In the second flight the JAGM also simultaneously tracked the target using its millimetre-wave radar.

The tests were critical to the company's performance on the US Army's Continued Technology Development programme. Lockheed Martin has submitted its JAGM low-rate initial production proposal to the army, with contract award expected later in 2015.

Frank St. John, vice president of tactical missiles and combat maneuver systems, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said: 'These flight tests demonstrate the maturity of Lockheed Martin's JAGM design and prove our risk-mitigation success and readiness for production.

'Our innovative, affordable JAGM solution will provide operational flexibility and combat effectiveness, keeping the warfighter ahead of the threat.'
