Lithuania requests six Black Hawks
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 6 July notified Congress of a possible FMS of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment to Lithuania, in a deal worth an estimated $380 million overall.
Prime contractors will be Lockheed Martin subsidiary Sikorsky and General Electric.
Six Black Hawk helicopters in standard US government configuration are included in the FMS, as well as an array of unique and government-furnished equipment.
This will include 14 T700-GE-701D engines, eight AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning System units (plus related user data modules) and 12 M240H machine guns.
Among the additional equipment listed in the FMS notice are EAGLE +429 navigation systems; AN/APX-123A IFF transponders; AN/ARC-201D, AN/ARC-231 and AN/ARC-220 radios; two VRC-100 HF radio ground stations; AN/AVR-2B laser warning receivers; TALON FLIR radars; NVG units; and ammunition.
‘The proposed sale of these UH-60 helicopters to Lithuania will significantly increase its capability to provide troop lift, border security, anti-terrorist, medical evacuation, search and rescue, re-supply/external lift, combat support in all weathers,’ according to the DSCA.
‘These UH-60 helicopters will allow for interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces in rapid response to a variety of missions and quick positioning of troops with minimal helicopter assets,' it added.
Elsewhere in the Baltic, Latvia signed a $200 million FMS contract in 2018 for four Black Hawk helicopters, Talon FLIR systems, spares and associated support equipment.
