Leonardo DRS to provide sensors for 2C-AWS
Leonardo DRS will provide advanced sensors for BAE Systems' 2-Color Advanced Warning System (2C-AWS), the company announced on 27 April.
The 2C-AWS is being developed under a contract with the US Army for its Limited Interim Missile Warning System Quick Reaction Capability. The system is designed to protect US Army rotary wing aircraft from new and emerging threats.
The system will provide a foundation for the army’s future threat detection needs and is designed to be upgradeable to meet future requirements. It will work with existing army aircraft survivability equipment, including aircraft interfaces and countermeasure systems.
Shawn Black, vice president and general manager of Electro-Optical Infrared Systems at Leonardo DRS, said:
'We are keenly aware of the increased threats presented to our army aviators and crews throughout the areas of operation and potential future battlefields. We understand the advanced detection capabilities required to counter those threats.'
