Last flight for Alouette II in the Belgian Defence Force
The last Alouette II in service with the Belgian Defence Forces will fly for the last time this week.
A special ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at Bierset Airbase, near Liege, marking the farewell to the type. The ceremony will be attended by numerous military and civilian authorities, including Defense Minister Pieter De Crem, and various pilots and technicians of the Alouette II.
The "Alouette II" will conduct a final flight. After 50 years serving the nation, there are just three machines left in service in Wing Heli Bierset. Over 40 countries have used the 1,300 copies of this machine (including 87 for Belgium).
This reliable helicopter was involved in many operational situations during different missions.
These include medical evacuation in the Congo, in recognition of the Belgian Antarctic expeditions in the 60s and the training of new pilots.
