Laos to refurbish Hips

Much mystery surrounds the state of Laos’ small military helicopter fleet, but a little clarity emerged from a recent deal inked by Russian Helicopters.

This month news emerged that the Rostec subsidiary had signed a four-year contract with the Laos Ministry of Defence. Under the terms of the agreement, Russian experts will repair and service existing helicopters operated by the Lao People’s Liberation Army Air Force (LPLAAF).

The work to be done includes refurbishing four Mil Mi-17 helicopters: two are Mi-17-1B and the remaining pair is of Mi-17 type. One of the latter will be upgraded to Mi-17-1B status during
