Lack of IFR certification not scaring contenders for US naval trainer

Despite instrument flight rules (IFR)-capable operations being a key requirement in the US Navy’s TH-XX trainer helicopter programme, two of the main contenders have yet to receive IFR certification.

The missed target of June for Leonardo’s TH-119 aircraft to receive IFR certification is not concerning the manufacturer. 

However, the failure of the FAA to so far issue the certification falls short of the company's claim during May’s Sea Air Space exhibition that the matter would be closed inside 30 days.
