LAAD 2015: Bell pushes militarised commercial helicopters

Bell Helicopter is hoping to draw on its recent success selling the 407GX aircraft to the Mexican Air Force with further orders from Latin American countries, company officials have told Shephard.

At this year’s LAAD exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, the company is displaying mock ups of the AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, V-22 Osprey and 407GT.  

The 407GT in particular – an armed variant of the 407 commercial helicopter – could prove popular for Bell in Latin America, especially as many governments in the region are unable to afford bespoke systems such as the AH-1Z, UH-1Y
