Russian engine-maker Klimov has revealed details on its new research and development programme undertaken within the frame of the so-called Advanced Helicopter Engine (AHE) initiative.

It is set to bring to the market a new-generation turboshaft engine in the 6,000shp class, most likely intended to power new-generation Russian-made military helicopters.

According to Klimov’s executive director Alexander Vatagin, the AHL research and development work is slated for completion by 2019, with the first prototype expected to be built and tested in 2021. The full development and testing cycle for the new engine is expected to be completed by 2025.
